Budgeting for Your Special Wedding Day

Budgeting for Your Special Wedding Day
Contributed by John Lewis

Getting married is still very much in vogue and with so much choice available for when where and how to get married, with careful planning you should be able to guarantee that your wedding day will indeed be a very special day.

Budgeting for that special wedding day is important as you could run up bills amounting to many thousands of pounds. Decide what you budget is at the outset, stick to it and don’t be swayed and end up spending more than you can afford.

Some of the biggest expenses will arise from the cost of the wedding attire with the bridal outfit accounting for a substantial sum of money. On top of that will be the costs of bridesmaid dresses, flowers, corsages and suit hire or purchase for the groom and best man. The wedding rings for the bride and groom will also be costly purchases as will the gifts for the bridesmaids and mums. The gifts given to the bridesmaid are usually pieces of jewellery and mums usually get lovely big bouquets of flowers.

Decide on how many people you are going to invite and then look at potential venues and catering costs and explore the alternatives. You don’t have to have a costly formal sit down meal when a more relaxed buffet style function may better suit your needs. If you do opt for formal you may choose to limit the number of people at the formal sit down meal to limit costs and then invite more guests to an evening buffet disco.

If you are getting married in church you will need to arrange some form of transport and there are many options such as Rolls Royces or maybe a horse drawn carriage.
The time of year that you are getting married may dictate many of the above, for instance you may not want arrive at a marquee in the middle of winter with the real likelihood of bad weather affecting your arrangements.

These days you can just about get married anywhere you choose and it doesn’t have to be in a church so you may be able to get married in the same venue where you are holding the reception. This will cut down on transport costs and you may get a better deal all round with an all inclusive package. Whether you choose a romantic castle in the Highlands of Scotland, a magnificent stately home or something more modest, remember stick to your budget and don’t be tempted to overspend.

Of course you and you future spouse may just decide to go abroad either alone or with a few friends and family and get married on a beach, up a mountain of even Las Vegas in Elvis Presley style. Tour operators will be very helpful in providing you with the correct advice and information about getting married abroad.

When choosing your exotic destination remember that some of the destinations we normally associate with glorious sunshine and beautiful beaches and scenery may have seasons where the weather may not be so predictable or kind. Beware of monsoon and hurricane seasons in particular.

Organising a wedding can be a very stressful affair but there are usually plenty of people that will be willing to help such as friends and family as well as wedding organisers if you want to leave everything to a professional. There are also many ways that you can get the information that you need to ensure your wedding day goes smoothly and to plan.
Whatever you decide, good luck, have fun, enjoy and make you wedding day a very special
day.

All About Love

All About Love
Contributed by Ajay R (ArticleSubmit.Net)

How do you know if you’ve ever been in love? Most people would argue that although being in love with someone is non-tangible, there is absolutely no doubt in their mind of it existing. In fact, if you are questioning whether or not you are in love, then you are most certainly not.

While I do not doubt for a second the existence of being in love (albeit being one of those sad individuals yet to experience it), I am somewhat perplexed over our perception of what constitutes humanities most sought after experience.

For me, falling in love with someone is a decision made based on the successful matching of ones own predetermined criteria or preferences.

I fondly refer to the preliminary stage of partner selection as the ‘terminator glasses’ phase, since it filters through a potential mate’s attributes and matches them off against our own unique preferences.

On the New Years Eve just passed I went to meet friends at a bar where we would be celebrating the evening. There, waiting at the door with my friend, I saw HIM for the first time. I did a quick terminator scan: Height: Around 6 foot. MATCH.
Build: Not too skinny, not too fat, not too buff. MATCH.
Hair: Short dark brown. Not over the top alla David Beckham. MATCH.
Complexion: Dark olive. MATCH.
Lips: Plump. MATCH.
Smile: Oh my God. MATCH.
Eyes: Big, brown, expressive, with long thick lashes. MATCH!
Stance: Gentle, not cocky. MATCH.
Nationality: Clearly foreign, probably Brazilian. MATCH.

With the terminator glasses still firmly planted on my face, the confirmed Brazilian was permitted to move onto the second part of phase one: interaction. This is often the most fatal part of any potential relationship, since every sentence uttered, every look given, and every movement is put through the filter of the terminator glasses. Any miss-match could lead to premature relationship death. Very little is forgiven during this part, especially if one’s program is set at ‘long term mate’. In saying this, it is also my favorite part of the process as it is the most fun. I see it as a game we both know we’re playing, but refuse to acknowledge as existing. One can withdraw from the game at anytime without repercussion (that is, of course, when both parties are working under the same set of rules. If this is not the case a few unwanted phone numbers are collected, followed by a few awkward conversations. And depending on how weak one is - unwanted dates followed by unwanted kisses, possibly ending in unwanted sex!).

Stage two, ‘the rose coloured glasses’ phase, is extremely dangerous and not usually approached with caution by either candidate. Depending on the impact of stage one, bombs warning ‘relationship doom’ could be dropped right in front of ones eyes, yet getting let go un-noticed. Everything appears and is, invariably, utterly workable. Despite my cynicism, this stage is defiantly more exciting than the terminator phase, albeit being laced with the fear of it all ending. The premature ‘I love you’ could escape ones mouth, falling like a ball onto a roulette table. The stakes are high, but it could also very well pay off and pass you onto stage three. Or not…

Declaring the title of stage three is difficult. And the truth is, I don’t know what to call it because I’m usually making my way to the green exit sign above the fire escape before you can say ‘marry me’.

My experience with stage three is that I usually realize Mr Perfect is human. I resist accepting him just the way he is, and try to point out where he is lacking (he is usually not so open to my constructive criticism. I wonder why?). This of course does not lead him to change his ways, but firmly ground himself in them (and resent me in the process). Love and commitment gets swapped with fear and dependence. Some stay to battle it out to the very end, most head straight for the green exit light.

People claim at this point that they have ‘fallen out of love’. My argument is that they were never in love in the first place. One of my favourite movies, ‘Moulin Rouge’, melodically states, “The greatest thing you will ever learn, is just to love, and be loved in return”. I believe this is what we think being in love is all about. Yet being loved in return implies that there is a condition to your giving love. So romantic love is conditional love. If romantic love only goes one-way, it is termed unrequited love or even ‘desperate’.
What if I said that true love can only be unconditional? And inside of that, true love can only mean 100% acceptance of the subject, just the way they are and just the way they’re not. What if love, real love, is just loving?

Online Dating At The End of the Rainbow

Online Dating At The End of the Rainbow PDF Print
Contributed by Naim A. Samad

The journey to healthy online dating, intimate, social and personal relationships starts at the beginning of the rainbow. Experiencing the joy of childbirth is analogous to viewing a beautiful rainbow. Many women love being pregnant! They feel sexy and sensual, busty and beautiful. Furthermore, every time they gaze upon their expanding bellies they must realize part two of this phenomenal and splendid act is about to commence.

Many loving and responsible parents verbalize the same statement, in anticipation of the birth of their newborn. “I want to give my son or daughter those things I never had”, is a universal statement. The statement made by parent’s echoes around the world. During the elation of the newborn, we fail to realize our traditional ways may have a negative impact on our newborn’s disposition, as she/he develops.

Manipulated by tradition, we believe there is no other means to an end other than the way of those who went before us. Fraud, manipulation, and deception have led us to believe that it is appropriate behavior to expose our children to fairy tales. We also accepted the belief that fairy tales are morality tales that will strengthen the moral disposition of our children. This statement is far from the truth, as children around the world who are exposed to fairy tales grow-up trying to unravel the complexities in their lives caused by being trapped in the fairy tale syndrome.

Our Fantasies Begin to Dominate Our Minds;
Our Desires Dominate Reason;
We begin to See Life;
As We Desire Life to Be.

Fairy tales and fictional characters harbor illusions in our minds, constantly generating a false sense of reality. We begin to believe what we imagine to be real, loosing all perspective of reality. If we fail to focus on the moment (reality), we may experience severe agony in the future. We are always concentrating on imaginary future events as the present moment and its life giving lessons pass us by. We find our dating relationships crumbling to pieces and we do not know why. We wake-up in a state of dizziness; our dating relationships resemble the workings of a revolving door, everyone is jumping on and off and it seems like life is spinning out of control.

Our fantasies begin to dominate our minds; our desires dominate reason; we begin to see life, as we desire life to be. We begin to fantasize about the type of intimate relationships we are going to have even taking it to the extent of perceiving how we are going to act within the relationships. We create images in our minds, fantasizing about our knight in shining armor, or a Britney Spears look alike, or just the girl next door. We begin to fantasize about all sorts of things. It is similar to parachute jumping without a parachute. It is an enormous mistake because every action has a reaction. Not knowing what the next moment will bring, places us in an unprotected state.

When our fantasies fail to turn into reality, intoxicants seems to be an alternative. Our relationships with others turn sour and we turn on our best friends (even our imaginary ones). Fear increases, as well as our imaginary fears about future events that will never happen. Life for many becomes fragmented and unpleasant. We begin to experience a feeling of hopelessness, worthlessness, and pessimism. The aforementioned is the reaction to focusing on our desires (fantasies) instead of reality.

“In United States 44.3 million people,
18 and older—about 1 in 5 adults,
suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder"

According to the National Institute of Mental Health,” mental disorders are common in the United States and internationally. An estimated 22.1 percent of Americans ages 18 and older—about 1 in 5 adults—suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. When applied to the 1998 U.S. Census residential population estimate, this figure translates to 44.3 million people. In addition, 4 of the 10 leading causes of disability in the U.S. and other developed countries are mental disorders—major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time.” There is no surprise.

As the rainbow appears to fade away, the beautiful picture is no longer clear. What is now apparent is reality. Reality is tolerable when we accept it. Reality only becomes unbearable when we refuse to accept it. For those who are planning to experience that beautiful rainbow on the horizon, remember that universal statement “I want to give my son or daughter those things I never had”.

We must give our children the opportunity to experience healthy dating relationships and embrace reality by encouraging them to focus and live in the moment. Denied were many the opportunities to learn the truth about the harmful effects of fairy tales, fiction, and desires. Countless dating relationships and marriages have ended as nightmares because of a universal misconception, that is, children grow out of everything. Children do not grow out of anything (except clothing) and they just grow into other things. Fairy tales, fantasies, and fiction are vehicles that cause our children to experience gross disappointments in life and destroy any hope of a healthy dating relationship. We must ask ourselves the question; do we want to foster disappointments and blameworthy characteristics in our children? Let us build healthy online dating relationships together. Stay tuned!

World of Warcraft Gold Guide

World of Warcraft Gold Guide
Contributed by ruibo chen

Having enough Gold in World of Warcraft is one of the most important aspects of the game. Gold has a major effect on your game play. Gold of course has their common known usage in a mmorpg game which is used to buy and sell items from vendors and other players. In world of Warcraft, gold can be used for training. To learn new skills you are required to pay the trainer a fee. Alot of gold would be required to perfect your character. Here are some tips to help you farm World of Warcraft Gold.

Grabbing a profession early in the game can most definitely have its advantage. You are able to level up your profession easily and gain its benefits. 2 professions we highly suggest starting with is mining and skinning. As you kill animals and other creatures in World of Warcraft you can easily skin the animals and sell them to vendors or other players with a nice load sum of profit. You are also leveling your profession as well. While you're out leveling your character I'm sure you will kill a numerous amount of mobs that you can skin. The mining profession is another great profession. You will oftenly run into caves which may have some very prosperious mineral ores. Some minerals are very popular in the game and are highly demanded.

Questing in World of Warcraft is unlike any other MMORPG released. Quests are one of the biggest advantages you can have in the game. While you're out leveling grab a quest each time you get. Only takes a matter of seconds. Not only will you receive EXP from killing the mobs in the quest but you will also gain additional EXP from completing the quest along with some nice items and money. A great bonus added to help players level faster and get richer of course.

Gears in World of Warcraft can get quite expensive. Alot more expensive than just training. From levels 1-40 I highly suggest not investing any money on buying gears or items. Low level characters are not too gear dependent. The quests should be able to provide you just about everything you need. Save the extra gold you have for higher level gears.

Certain types of mobs tend to have better drops than others. From what we've noticed so far, humanoids tend to drop more gold and items than any other creature in the game. So while you're out leveling away, try to kill as many humanoids as you can. If you find these tips useful check out our website http://www.worldofwarcraftgoldguide.com for even better WoW gold guides.

Vitamin C -- The Most Famous of Vitamins!

Vitamin C -- The Most Famous of Vitamins! PDF Print
Contributed by David Leonhardt
By David Leonhardt

We call Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, "the most famous of vitamins" because it really is the best known. It is the first one schoolchildren learn. It is the most cited cure for the common cold. Most people can rhyme off at least a few foods that contain vitamin C. And vitamin C is the single most searched nutrient on the Internet.

HISTORY: Nobel Prize winning biochemist Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi first isolated vitamin C in 1928. (As someone of Hungarian descent, I find this a touch exciting.)

Vitamin C first got its reputation for beating the common cold in 1970, when fellow Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling published his bestselling book "Vitamin C and the Common Cold". In it, he suggested that taking vitamin C at levels well above the USA RDA (now 60 milligrams per day) could strengthen the immune system and help ward off the common cold.

BENEFITS: Vitamin C helps form collagen, a glue-like fibrous protein in bone, cartilage, tendons and other connective tissue. Vitamin C helps give structure and maintain such body parts as bones, cartilage, muscle, veins, capillaries and teeth.

But recent studies have also linked "adequate dosages" of vitamin C to preventing a number of common cancers, of helping boost the nervous system, of prolonging life, of reducing the risk of heart disease, of softening the symptoms of respiratory diseases such as asthma and cystic fibrosis, and of keeping skin and glands healthy.

SOURCES: Most animals manufacture their own vitamin C. Primates, such as humans, gorillas, and monkeys, have somehow lost this ability.

Which is why we need to get our vitamin C from our diets.

It is well known that citrus fruits, such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, tangerines, limes, mandarins and others contain vitamin C.

In fact, vitamin C comes almost exclusively from fruits and vegetables.
Other good sources are tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, broccoli, asparagus, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, peas, rutabagas, cantaloupe, kiwi, papayas, potatoes and watermelon.

One place that is NOT a good source are vitamin C pills, which the body just cannot absorb properly. This is a water soluble vitamin best taken in its natural juice or in a liquid supplement.

OPTIMUM USAGE: Fortunately, if you consume too much of a water soluble vitamin, your body will get rid of excess. It also means that your body does not store it for long periods of time. You can't "stock up" on it, and you can reach a saturation point quickly; you need vitamin C several times a day.

Being a water-soluble vitamin, you lose it when you boil foods. For instance, if you boil your broccoli, you will lose the vitamin C. However, if you boil your broccoli in a soup, you will get the broccoli's vitamin C in the broth.

Do not soak or store fruits or vegetables in water, for you can lose the vitamin C that way. In short, the fresher cut the fruit or vegetable, and the less cooked, the more vitamin C you will get.

Like all vitamins and minerals, Vitamin C is most effective when combined with other nutrients. For example, one of the big benefits of vitamin C is that it helps the body digest and absorb iron, an essential mineral for good health.

It has also been found that vitamin C and E work together to help stave off Alzheimer's disease.

This is one of the reasons it is so important to take vitamin supplements that contain as many different nutrients as possible, so the body can absorb them together and enjoy the maximum benefits from each one.

DOSAGE: Most experts agree that the US RDA is only a fraction of what it should be, and that daily vitamin C levels up to 1,000 or even 2,000 milligrams per day are safe and healthy.

Essential Nectar contains 250% of the US RDA, mixing it with 233 other natural, plant-based nutrients...making it a good vitamin C supplement for your diet.

Effective Steps For Your Quick Weight Loss

Effective Steps For Your Quick Weight Loss PDF Print
Contributed by haja sherief

If you want to lose weight and look more attractive...ALL
WITHIN A FEW MONTHS...follow these quick weight loss techniques. They'll help make the entire weight loss process faster, easier and more effective over the long-term...

1. EXERCISE IN THE MORNING.
Exercising first thing in the morning raises your metabolism for the whole day and refreshes your mind. Also, people who regularly exercise in the morning are much less likely to skip a workout than those who exercise later in the day.

2. CUT OUT PROCESSED FOODS.
Try to cut out as many processed foods from your diet as possible. Except for specially formulated 'diet' foods,
processed foods make it very difficult to lose weight quickly. Stick mainly to lean proteins, whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables.

3. TAKE A HIGH-QUALITY MULTI-NUTRIENT FORMULA.
This is one of the most important things you can do to help your weight loss efforts and improve your overall health. Today's nutrient-deficient foods are a major cause of overeating, lack of energy, and obesity.

4. DRINK MORE WATER.
Drinking water all day long will ensure that your metabolism is running at an optimum level. That means quicker weight loss. Lots of water will also
keep your appetite in check and prevent overeating.

5. REMIND YOURSELF.
Remind yourself of your goals constantly! Put pictures of people who have the type of body you want on your bathroom mirror, refrigerator door, car dashboard, and anywhere you think would be helpful. This technique is a powerful motivator and will help you stay on track.

6. EAT AT THE TABLE.
Never eat while sitting in front of the TV. You are MUCH more likely to overeat the wrong kinds of foods when watching television. When you eat, sit at a table and concentrate on enjoying the taste of your food slowly.

7. DRINK YOUR COFFEE BLACK.
The cream and sugar you add to your coffee in the morning adds hundreds of calories. A cup of plain black coffee has only 10 calories and no fat. Even better, start drinking green or black tea instead of coffee. Zero calories and LOTS of healthy antioxidants!

8. BRUSH YOUR TEETH.
When you get the urge to eat sugary foods, brush your teeth. The taste of toothpaste really reduces sugar cravings.

9. CHEW MINT-FLAVORED GUM.
Whenever you get the urge to snack on sugary or fatty foods chew on a piece of mint gum, preferably sugarless. Just like with toothpaste, the mint flavor lessens the craving for bad foods.

10. EAT MORE FRUIT.
Try to eat 2 - 3 pieces of fruit every day, especially before meals. The fiber will help fill you up and reduce your hunger cravings so that you don't overeat. Organic fruit is the best choice and can now be found at many stores.

11. USE NATURAL DIURETICS.
If you want to shed a bunch of water weight quickly, use the following naturally diuretic foods: unsweetened cranberry juice, kelp, parsley, and watercress. They are much healthier and safer than chemical diuretics.

12. SPRINT.
To rev up your metabolism and burn more fat, throw in a few short sprints when you jog. This is a type of exercise called 'interval training' and it's highly effective for quick fat loss.

13. GET ENOUGH SLEEP.
Tired people are more likely to overeat during the day. Also, a recent university study found that a person's metabolism rises 40% when they get enough sleep!

14. CUT OUT THE SUGAR.
If you really want to lose weight quickly, you HAVE to cut refined sugars out of your diet. High sugar foods cause your insulin levels to skyrocket and make it almost impossible for your body to burn fat. That means no sodas, candies, pastries, or undiluted fruit juice.

15. EAT SOME FAT.
Cutting out all fat from your diet is a very bad thing to do for several reasons. The best option is to limit the amount of animal fat you eat and to supplement your diet with "good" fats like those found in fish, olive, and
flaxseed oils.

16. RAISE HGH NATURALLY.
If you're over 30 years old, your natural human growth hormone levels are on the decline. You can increase them naturally with moderate weight training. A good vitamin supplement will also help considerably.

17. HAVE FUN.
Find exercise options that you enjoy. You can burn as much fat playing an intense game of basketball as you can jogging for half an hour. Also, walking, hiking, and bike riding are some of the most effective weight loss activities around!

I sincerely hope you've enjoyed these quick weight loss tips. Have a great day and best of luck with your weight loss efforts!

How To Lose Money On The Internet

How to Lose Money on the Internet

(or, Why Paid Survey Sites Are Garbage)

I decided to name this article “how to LOSE money on the Internet” simply because that’s all most of the online money-making programs out there let you do. You lose money when you buy them, and maybe even, like me, when you register a site to put their “winning secrets” into practice. (They say “write about what you know” after all…)

First off, I can sympathize with the desire to buy one of these ‘get rich quick’ schemes. Who wouldn’t want to make money at home, working when you want and how much you want, with extra cash and time to do all the things that make life great? Taking vacations, staying home with the kids, buying a cottage, going out to dinner whenever you want… Sounds pretty good…

In fact, it sounds SO good to me that I’ve been burned more than once on ‘get rich quick’ schemes. I won’t tell you how many times – it’s too embarrassing. Suffice it to say I’ve been through the grinder more than once. And when I say ‘getting burned’, I’m not just talking about getting my dreams crushed and my soul stepped on… I’m talking about losing money, time, and my faith in humanity…

But, the optimist in me is determined to make something good out of it all. So I’ve put together some rules to keep in mind when you decide to enter the internet world of money-making programs.

The RULES:

The Darker Side.

#1 – No matter what they say, it’s old and outdated. Think about it. If someone’s telling you exactly how they got rich, it’s because the idea’s time has passed and the author is on to something new. Treat what you see online like the financial pages – by the time it’s in print, it’s old news and the real players have already made their money and moved on.

That’s not to say that there aren’t ways to make money out there… just be realistic about it.

#2 – Paid survey sites are garbage. I don’t know how the owners of these sites can look themselves in the mirror after promising people “$200/day!” filling in surveys. It’s complete bunk. You can make money, but only very small amounts. There are two primary reasons for this – one, you only get asked to do a survey if you fit into the often very narrow required demographic (e.g. unwed Indian men aged 35-45 living in New Mexico with at least 3 Hyundai’s); and two, you usually get paid less than $5 per survey. So for the 1 or 2 surveys you may actually qualify for, you may be looking at a whopping $10 over a week (or even month). Don’t get scammed – paid survey sites are pretty much useless. (Trust me – I’ve subscribed to 2 of them)

#3 – It costs money to get traffic. The days of ‘organic’ internet traffic is over. Google, bless their soul, has made it so you actually have to have something IMPORTANT and USEFUL on your site to get listed on a Google search (what a concept). While this is good for us as information consumers, it’s bad for us as internet business people… because even with great, useful information, it can take many months to build up any traffic organically. So we have to buy that traffic, and there’s a variety of ways to do it. But it’s not cheap – it can very easily cost into the $$ thousands per month!

#4 – You’re going to have to work. Despite what ANY of these programs say, even the best ones, you’re going to have to work. A lot. Sites don’t magically appear, magically get top listings and magically get updated constantly. It takes people (read: you) and hours (read: many, many hours). So unless you have thousands of dollars to pay for people to do everything, be prepared to put a lot of time into any online venture.

The Lighter Side

#5 – Good info is out there, if you can find the source. Many of the “programs” being offered out there are just copies of one successful idea somebody published a while ago. One program that actually does work, then gets copied so many times, with the hyperbole jacked up each time, that you may only be seeing offers for what are by now essentially scams. So find the original if you can, and avoid the copy-cats.

#6 – Be innovative. The internet’s still a wide-open playing field, where fortunes can be made! Try being unique and innovative. Don’t just copy the old “secrets” (see above). Use your own imagination!

#7 – Be honest. Some of the “programs” out there are really just instructions for pulling thinly-veiled scams on other people. Like using a great sales pitch to sell a basically worthless program with a money-back guarantee that doesn’t kick in until 30 or 45 days are up. The author is counting on most people forgetting about the guarantee by the time it’s up. While this does unfortunately work at some level, you will never be a real success this way, in business or in life.

#8 – Focus on what you know. If you focus on a niche area that you know a lot about, you can create a unique competitive advantage that can separate you from the rest. And, it gives you something to market and promote to help drive traffic. There are still lots of niche opportunities on the internet – don’t be afraid to avoid the herd!

#9 - Take your time. Fools rush in... in this case, literally. Take the time to plan. Run your ideas by a friend or colleague. Map out your business plan, competitive focus, product/service offering, and site map. Doing so ahead of time will save you money and hours of heartache!

Okay, so those are my 9 rules. Take ‘em or leave ‘em, but I’m giving them to you so you can avoid making some of the mistakes I made.

So can you still make money online? Yes, you can. $50,000 per month? Probably not. But if you keep your expectations realistic and are prepared to put in the hours, you can make good money on the internet. Remember, if was really as easy as they say, everyone would be doing it.

Best of luck to you,

A.L.

Christmas Toy Shopping Online – 10 Reasons

Christmas Toy Shopping Online – 10 Reasons PDF Print
Contributed by Paul Harvey

With the Christmas season approaching, here are 10 reasons to do your toy shopping online.

1. Child free. Trying to shop for the Christmas presents with your children in tow does not really work. Why not shop on the Internet when they are in bed or busy with something else?
2. Crowd free. Avoid the hustle and bustle of the High Street, trying to get a pushchair around a cramped and busy shop.
3. 24/7 shopping. The Internet is open for shopping at all hours. With the exception of a couple of large supermarkets, why tie yourself to when your local toy shops are open?
4. Range of toys available. You can find pretty much every toy available on the Internet. It’s a great way to find unusual and different ideas when you get stuck in the rut of buying the same type of present year after year - after all, our niche is wooden toys and we stock some very hard to find items. A surefire way of getting away from the cloned High Streets and malls we live with today.
5. Time saving. The children are not with you - and do not know what you have got them. You are not fighting off the crowds of other shoppers. You can fit your shopping into a time that is convenient for your. No finding the last parking space in town. Get the toy shopping out of the way and when you do go to the High Street, you can relax and shop for fun.
6. No shopping bags. Five full shopping bags hanging off the pushchair, the car parked at the top of a multistory carpark a mile away and the busy shopping center to negotiate. Shop online and juggling the shopping bags is history (as is keeping out the little prying hands and eyes).
7. Home or work delivery. The majority of online stores will happily deliver to your workplace or home. If you want the toys quickly, many stores will offer a courier option. While most stores will charge a postage and packing fee, just think how much you have saved on car parking, petrol and time - and if you spend enough, the store will probably throw in free postage.
8. Range of payment options. On the Internet you can pay easily by card. Many stores will accept payment by cheque or postal order. Then there are also the online payment options such as PayPal. Don’t forget that PayPal and many banks and credit card companies offer Internet fraud protection for online purchases.
9. Discounts. You may well get a good price on the Internet, but the trick to getting extra discounts is to sign up for mailing lists on websites that interest you. You will probably find that from time to time you will get extra offers, discounts and lower shipping costs.
10. Right to Cancel. In many countries you have extra rights when purchasing online. In Britain and the EU, you may cancel your order at any time during the first seven working days after delivery - for any reason at all.

What to Look for in an Apartment

What to Look for in an Apartment PDF Print
Contributed by Paul Smith

Finding an apartment to rent is a very time consuming and important venture. It may seem like a daunting task at first, but if one takes the time to become educated on the apartment options, the experience will be a lot more enjoyable. Too many people fail to inspect apartments thoroughly, and have a clear idea of what they want. As a result, the apartment shopping experience can often be disheartening. Looking for certain key elements in an apartment can make yield higher satisfaction.

When looking for an apartment, it is always best to have an idea of what you want. Figuring out certain price ranges before you start looking at apartments will save you a lot of time. Also, take into account what type of apartment you would be interested in. How many bedrooms and indoor square footage an apartment has is very important to most people. Also, try to get at least some kind of idea of what kind of neighborhood you are looking for. When searching for an apartment, you want something that will fit your needs.

Also think about the location. Location is very important because of schools, jobs, and neighbors. Some apartments may seem very alluring, but are located in inconvenient places, or in bad neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods have excessive noise and high crime rates. Better apartments will be far removed from these unpleasant elements. Sadly, the more expensive apartments are usually the apartments in better locations. This is an unavoidable fact, and should therefore be taken into consideration when searching for an apartment. Don’t let prices scare you into renting an apartment in a bad neighborhood.

Consider the owner and manager of the apartments. Find out if they have good reputations. The best managers are there for their tenants, and are always willing to help. The best owners charge a fair rent and avoid raising rent. Some of the best owners will offer the best deals on appliances and services. When visiting an apartment, don’t be afraid to ask tenants what they think about the landlord and owner. If all of the reviews are positive, then you may have found the apartment for you.

Look for apartments that have similar neighbors. If you are a bachelor, then you might enjoy having neighbors who are single. If you have kids, then it is always a great idea to look for a family-oriented apartment complex. If you live near people with similar backgrounds, you are more likely to form friendships, endure fewer conflicts, and have a more fulfilling living experience.

Finally, consider the appearance of the apartment. Some apartments look lackluster and seem dirty and unappealing. A good owner will take pride in his or her apartment complex. The best apartment complexes have nice landscaping, paint jobs, trees, and many other appealing elements. Most people want to be proud of where they live. Looking for a well run, appealing apartment is always a great idea.

There are many qualities to look for in an apartment. Consider location, cost, and the reputation of the manager and owner. Don’t be fooled by cheap apartments, or special deals. Having a clear idea of what you are looking for, and how you will get it will make your apartment search not only more effective, but also more enjoyable.

Improving Curb Appeal

Improving Curb Appeal PDF Print
Contributed by Robert Lipply

What if your real estate agent could give you a fool-proof way to sell your home quickly and get top dollar for it too? Well, nothing is more important in attracting potential buyers to your home than curb appeal. What is curb appeal? Well simply put, it’s that quality that makes a person driving by your house stop and say “Wow!” First impressions do count! If people don’t like the outside they won’t go inside.

The view from the street and the picture posted on the internet are the first impressions people will have of your home. There may be many homes for sale in your neighborhood or town and you want people to see yours first.
So here are some tips for you to maximize your curb appeal:

* Do some homework. Take a walk or drive around your neighborhood. Bring a notebook and or a digital camera. Look at the houses. What catches your eye? Which homes stand out? Write down what you like or snap a picture. Then go home and take a long, hard look at your own house. Try to see it with new eyes. Snap a picture and compare it with the others. Make a list of things you would need to do to get your home to the level of the best homes. Set aside some time and a budget for sprucing up your home’s exterior. Either do it yourself or hire some professionals. It will be money well spent.
* Fix or replace whatever’s broken, outdated or ugly. If you hate something, chances are so will someone else. Do you need to paint? Sometimes all you need is a fresh, new color on the front door or shutters to really make your house stand out. Do you need to rent a power washer? Do you need a new roof or new door? How old is the landscaping? If it’s more than 15 yrs old, it‘s probably overgrown. Boring, overgrown and neglected landscapes do nothing for curb appeal.
* Have a major family clean up day. You want your house to sparkle! Wash the windows, polish the doorknobs, sweep the porch, clear the gutters, clean the driveway, mow the lawn, pull the weeds, pick up fallen branches and leaves, trim the shrubs, deadhead the flowers, mulch the beds, edge the flower beds, edge the lawn.
* Now for the fun part, add some decorative touches. The easiest way to decorate the front of your house is with annual flowers. Make sure you have healthy looking flowers around your property. Pick a color scheme that goes with your property. You can borrow ideas from your neighbors, a magazine, or your local nursery or home center. Figure out if you have mostly sun or shade and choose the right flowers for your site. You can plant some in the ground and others in containers. Put some pots on your steps and porch or some large planters by the front door. Plant a window box. Containers are easy to change with the seasons. Just remember to water and fertilize. Other things you can do are to add shutters, porch chair cushions, seasonal decorations, attractive house numbers, a new mailbox, a bird bath, a beautiful wreath, or anything that will make your home look inviting and attractive.
* Don’t forget lighting. Many people can’t check out houses till after dark. Make sure your house stands out at night. Choose an attractive porch light and keep it on. Keep the interior lights on as well. You want your home to be warm and inviting. Try landscape lights, but even better, a spotlight or two aimed at your beautiful landscape or the lovely front door.

Good luck and have fun improving your home's curb appeal. If you follow the important tips above, your home will be a hit with the potential buyers. Most importantly, your home will sell quickly and at the highest market value.

Bird Flu Blues – helping kids cope with bad news

Bird Flu Blues – helping kids cope with bad news PDF Print
Contributed by Paul Madrid

My son Josh was scared. You could see it in his little face. Angst was written all over him. His knuckles were as white as his t-shirt. He starred down. “What’s up?” I asked with a smile hoping to relieve his fears. “Daddy,” he nervously replied, “I’m afraid I’ll get Bird Flu!”

And this from a seven year old! At breakfast time!!

I’m not sure if Josh had heard me talking about Bird Flu or if he heard about it at school. Whatever the case, kids do hear all that is going on around us and need to be helped through their fears before they get a pandemic of the stomach. There are in fact just a few simple things we as parents can do to help our kids work through issues, regardless of the age or gender of our bundles of joy.

A lot of what kids (and especially youth) need is simply an ear. Talking with your child about the issues at hand is vitally important. When I explained to Josh that Bird Flu is very susceptible to heat and that just zapping his breakfast in the Microwave already killed all those bad guys (germs) his face light up like a Christmas tree. I also explained to him a few other facts about Bird Flu including tips on washing hands, covering the mouth when coughing and not kissing the neighbors chicken. Adding a few practical steps can help your child relate to the more complex “how’s”, and in this case, even have the added benefit of finally getting those hands washed before meals.

Of course my son knows I travel to Asia and in fact lived in China where influenza is birthed. So yes, I told him too of precautions I take, vaccines which are available against the flu virus and most importantly, that God is in control so I don’t have to worry. I suggested to Josh that he too can pray for me when I travel and that he is under God’s protection. I took it another step and said we can do something positive and helpful for other kids. We talked about what he could tell his friends at school should they get scared. We talked about how we could pray together for kids in China. And we talked about giving to help fund research. All these things helped Josh face the issue of Bird Flu in a different light.

I know that Josh is not completely over his fears. He hears more and more about Bird Flu and I know that when kids are sick at school Josh wonders of they “have it.” That is why I keep up to date with Josh about what is going on without making Bird Flu an issue or blowing it out of proportion. I hear in his prayers that it is sometimes on his mind, other times not. So I keep a balance in how or when I approach the subject. And of course I make the point to always pray God’s protection over us as a family and to keep our house safe. In this way Josh gets a perspective on life which doesn’t suggest that danger is non-existent but rather that through action and prayer we don’t have to live in fear.

Make a place for computers in children’s world

Make a place for computers in children’s world PDF Print
Contributed by Kanchan Bodas

Computers have become an important part of our everyday lives and will be even more in the future. Knowledge about computers might become as important to elementary school children as reading and writing.

There has been a lot of debate whether computers should be used with younger children. Some educators doubt the value of modern technology with younger kids. But some researchers have found lot of positive learning benefits with the use of computers in younger kids, especially when an adult supervisor is involved. Positive impact has also been found on children with disabilities or special needs. It has been said that “Technology can change the way children think and learn.”

Children are great “thinkers”. Their rapidly growing brains are assimilating a lot of knowledge from their surroundings. Lot of data is analyzed and stored in the memory cells. Positive play experiences, visual and auditory stimuli give a big boost to this process.

For example; I was pleasantly surprised one day when I saw my 2 and half year old twin girls playing with their toy fishes. They were holding a couple of dolphins, making jumping movements with their hands and dolphin sounds with their mouth at the same time. They were pretending that the dolphins are playing in the water. Then they picked up a whale which started talking to the dolphins. They made whale sounds with some “clicks” and “tweets”. Being a mother I was fascinated and of course very proud. I learned later that they were looking at the Encyclopedia with their dad, on the earlier day and had repeatedly watched the sound clips and little video clips.

Explore, create and learn while having fun. That is a child’s life. Playing is a lot more to children then just having fun. As children play, they learn about themselves and their surrounding environment. They learn social skills, learn to solve problems and also develop their motor skills. Playing enhances their creativity and imagination.

These days wonderful computer based educational games and activities are available in the market for children. There are excellent websites on the internet, which provide information and educational games for children. Parents and caregivers should find play activities fit for their children. They should be challenging, but not frustrating or overwhelming. Parents are their child’s first playmates. Children enjoy a game lot more when a parent or family member is involved in the play.

Should children surf on the internet? It is “information super-highway.” It has its own benefits and risks. Children using internet without supervision is a risk, but with a knowledgeable and responsible adult it could bring lot of benefits. It is just like driving a car and riding a car. Children can safely ride and enjoy the information super highway while a responsible adult is in the driver’s seat.

Of course there should be a limit on how much time children can spend on the computer. As a general guideline the rules can be similar to those used for viewing TV. Anything done in excess can be harmful. Consumption of too many vitamin tablets in a day can also be harmful.

Aggressive Marketing

Aggressive Marketing PDF Print
Contributed by Bryan Quinn

If you get an email with a title like ‘Don't Ever Trust Me Again!’ and continues along the lines of '... then you don't have to take my advice ever again!'

My advice is - Don't *

Perhaps it's because I'm skeptical of the number of "miracle" products, "great deals", 'limited time offers' or 'incredible packages' that are advertised online every day. Perhaps it's because I have bought more products than I can possibly use for now. Perhaps it's because there are probably more people trying to sell this particular package than the number of packages that are available. Or, perhaps it's because I received an email with almost identical content from too many different sources. Whatever the reason, don't make the same mistakes as I have in the past.

* It may be a good deal. It may be exactly what you are looking for. But if you receive emails with exactly the same content from different sources, think carefully before you buy. There are some good internet marketers that I have every respect for. However, there are an increasing number of ‘marketers’ that show little thought or consideration for others. They will take from you but offer nothing in return. You may disagree with the last statement. If you buy a product from them and you are happy with that product and they are happy with the money earned from selling you that product it's a win-win situation.

That's all well and good until you look more closely at the process. To do this, other factors must be taken into account. These include cost, value, convenience, time, and most importantly trust. You've probably heard of the phrase. "The money is in the list". I wouldn't disagree with that and it's easy to see why many of the "big list" hitters are successful in the percentage game. But unless they offer you something more than somebody else’s 'sales pitch' ignore them. Many of these people come and go. Make sure they don't go with your money.

With regard to the email in question, here is a quote from a 'trusted' ezine that I subscribe to "This is only of interest to you, Bryan, if you really need some brand new products to sell. If not, don't bother." At least, this is honest and straight to the point. I know who I'd buy from. On occasion, time may be more important than trust. If this is the case, then make sure you have a use for the product before you buy it. We are all guilty of impulse buying. It can be all too easy to buy something that will seldom, if ever, be used.

If you subscribe to an ezine or newsletter, it's often useful to keep tabs on the sender. By doing this you will learn to recognize if the content is original or simply a copy of someone else's work. You'll also quickly discover if the sender is only interested in using you as a means of earning a 'fast buck'. This is obvious if there is little or no content, excessive affiliate URLs, or emails that are repetitive or delivered more often than necessary.

If you like the newsletter or email subscription, that’s great. If you don't, you can usually 'unsubscribe'. If this fails, then try 'whitelist' filtering to weed it out. If you think the email is from a spammer, then be careful. Don't click on any URL or 'unsubscribe' option, and unless you are absolutely sure of the originator, never open an attachment.

If you use eBay or PayPal, you will no doubt be aware of the fake or spoof emails that are periodically blasted out. Well, the spin cycle has begun again. A good tutorial on spoof emails and how to recognize them can be found at http://pages.ebay.com/education/spooftutorial/index.html

Tip - If you have your own website, don't use your default address for your PayPal or eBay account. Use a different address and you will quickly spot the spoof email in the 'To' line of the email.
