How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies

first you have to make sure it is really fruit flies and not drain flies (their evil cousin that lives off the sludge in your drains!!) to do this, put apple cider vinegar in a cup or saucer (you can also use a bottle of wine with a tad bit left in it-drink wine first!! dont waste it on these pesky fruit flies!) and leave out... if you have a good amount of fruit flies in the vinegar, then they are prolly fruit flies and you need to kill them by making a fruit fly trap....this is little more than getting a mason jar and putting more of the vinegar in there...but make a cylilndrical shaped lid (a funnel shaped lid) from paper and put on top...this allows a hole for them to get in, but they are too stupid to find the way out! if they dont drown in the vinegar first that is!! ...now, if you have drain flies, then you need to get a wire brush and clean out your drain with it.... they sell them at any hardware store and come in different sizes. finally, rinse out the sludge with drain clean (after the scrubing as it will usually just roll over it if you havent agitated first) and rinse...this should kill the eggs/larvae and get rid of that sludge they love so much!
